POSITION TITLE: ALEF Fund Manager                                FLSA: Exempt

DEPARTMENT: ALEF                                             

REPORTS TO: VP, Engagement and Leadership Development

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: Under the general direction of the ALEF Board President and Directors, directs all aspects of ALEF Fund, Inc. 501(c) 3 operations, fundraising, public policy, governance, marketing, and scholarship processes.

The ALEF Fund is a Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) that provides scholarships to Pre-K, Kindergarten, Primary or Secondary school students who wish to attend participating Jewish private schools of their choice. Scholarship funds are raised through a Georgia law that allows taxpayers to obtain a state income tax credit for amounts contributed to the ALEF Fund. Since 2008, the ALEF Fund has awarded more than $20M in scholarships, helping make Jewish education more affordable for more families in Georgia.

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Operations Management
Direct and oversee the management of all ALEF Fund operations including:  
 
A. Create and Implement the ALEF Fund’s fundraising plan for each tax year. 
B. Implement Student Scholarship application and awards process, work with school development staff, ensure adherence to state policies 
C. Ensure compliance with existing Student Scholarship Organization (SSO) policies and develop new policies as necessary in response to changes in legislation; provide annual contributor reports to Georgia Department of Revenue and Georgia Department of Education
D. Act as liaison to Georgia DOR, JFGA lobbyist and other appropriate state bodies that impact on SSO’s
E. Research and recruit new ALEF Partner Schools: work with staff and lay leaders to process and train new schools in fund operation
F. Work with JFGA Accounting staff to develop annual budget, complete annual audit and state reports
G. Work with website developer to update content, manage site functionality and continuously improve user interface
H. Maintain and update ALEF Fund digital files and reports year-to-year
 
2. Fundraising and Marketing
Coordinate and oversee all ALEF fundraising and marketing activities including:
 
A. Represent the ALEF Fund in the community and events sponsored by participating schools. Create opportunities to expand public understanding of ALEF, i.e., breakfasts in business community, sponsorship of community events, attendance at community-wide events
B. Function as the contact person for Jewish Day School Heads, Clergy, Development and Advancement Directors in each school on an ongoing basis 
C. Craft compelling fundraising, e-blast and outreach communications to support each phase of the ALEF fundraising year
D. Be able to speak publicly to school boards, lay leaders, staff, Day School and EEC Councils and at events to promote ALEF
E. Oversee ALEF Coordinator to ensure timely processing of applications, payments, scholarship requests awards, and state reports
F. Develop and implement a strategy for maximizing the engagement of the business and financial community, i.e. accountants, financial planners, etc.
G. Supply JFGA leadership and the ALEF board with up-to-date information on the ALEF Fund and engage them to be supporters and advocates 
H. Engage and assist community volunteers to reach out to prospective individual and corporate donors, especially in synagogues, Jewish preschools and the general community
I. Manage the ALEF Fund website, updating messaging as needed. Work with the JFGA Marketing Department to create and produce compelling print marketing collateral and urgent e-communications that drive the success of the Fund. 
 
 
3. Strategic Planning and Evaluation
Work with the ALEF Fund board to develop an annual strategy that increases ALEF’s impact and maximizes fundraising. Set goals, track progress, and evaluate results 
 
A. Advise the ALEF Board Chair of resource, operational, and legislative issues which may impact the Fund
B. Research best practices of other SSO’s, maintain relationships with key staff of other SSO’s
C. Meet with school staff to analyze and develop partnership opportunities to promote Jewish education and ALEF
 
4. Governance Support
Together with the ALEF board chair, plan and facilitate board meetings, facilitate policy decision-making, and ensure fiscal oversight. Provide support services to the board including:
 
A. Regular board alerts, as necessary, on relevant topics, i.e. changes in legislation, ALEF policy, etc.
B. Staff three annual Board meetings, complete and provide meeting minutes, agendas, data for board resolutions and the allocation of ALEF funds 
C. Provide updates and reports on fundraising, scholarship and other relevant data
 
5. Miscellaneous
A. Promote the mission of the Federation at all times through superior customer service to all and through the efficient use and care of resources.

STATUS AND SCOPE: Initiate and respond to ongoing contacts with Engagement and Federation staff, donors, volunteers and members of the local and national community.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelors of Art or Bachelors of Science degree, Master Preferred. Five years of experience in a non-profit fundraising organization or equivalent. Ability to relate to diverse constituencies and knowledge of the Jewish community preferred. Experience in volunteer management and group facilitation helpful. Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication abilities, knowledge and ability to use databases, computer spreadsheets, word processing and other basic programs. Must have own transportation, valid State of Georgia driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance for traveling to outside meetings and events as well as occasional transporting of materials.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimal physical effort required with intermittent standing and walking and prolonged periods of sitting in meetings or at desk working with computer.
Position requires stamina to work extended days to include early morning, evening and weekend events and meetings in addition to the regular work schedule.
 
 
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS : Position requires flexibility with the ability to focus on detail while handling multiple tasks and periods of frequent interruptions. Must be able to plan and organize assignments independently, to create and develop research and to present information effectively to groups.
