What is TOV?

Our Tikkun Olam Volunteers will help out when and where they are needed, throughout our Jewish community. You may volunteer to take part in any single TOV event, or all of them. We will have our TOV events scheduled so that we have daytime, evening, and even weekend options. This year, we will have numerous social action opportunities. We have plans for working with the elderly, creating memory books, knitting for the needy, and much more.

Tentative Dates and Projects: For more information about any of the TOV projects, please contact Stephanie Wyatt at swyatt@jfga.org. More information, as well as dates and times may be updated as needed.

October 24, 2012: Knitting to help the staff of the William Breman Jewish Home to honor the over 250 staff members of, by knitting or crocheting a scarf for each and every one of them. These dedicated, professional staff members provide quality care day in and day out, and we would like to give each one a handmade scarf to represent the warmth they provide the residents throughout the year. The scarves will be presented to the staff in December 2012 at holiday time. If you are unable to participate in the October event, but would like to knit for the Breman, just let us know. We are also looking for women who would like to host small knitting groups.

October 15, 2012 - November 15, 2012: Coat Drive to benefit Yad L’Yad, Jewish Family & Career Services, and the Zaban Couples Night Shelter. The winter months are not the easiest for those without the means to stay warm, and donating to this drive is another way you can support your Federation’s mission of caring for those in need.

December 5, 2012: Creating Memory Books for the residents of the Cohen Home. Help the residents put together a wonderful keepsake full of photographs, memories and history. This invaluable book can be the perfect gift for them to give at Chanukah or to keep themselves to remember the full and rich events of their life.
