Chinese women make Aliyah | Reform Movement | Help for Holocaust Survivors

Five Chinese women, descended from the medieval Jewish community of Kaifeng, have made Aliyah to Israel. Upon their arrival, they will visit the Western Wall before making their way to Midreshet Nishmat, where they will prepare for their official conversion to Judaism under the auspices of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate.

The Reform Movement represents nearly 1.5 million people in the US and provides a key source of financial support and political advocacy for Israel, yet Reform leaders from the US are concerned that Israel is losing support in the community after government ministers sharply criticize the movement in recent months.

With matching private funds, as part of an initiative launched by Vice President Joe Biden in 2013, the Jewish Federations of North America will disburse $4.5 million in assistance to be distributed over five years for Holocaust survivors.
