Missions

JEWISH FEDERATION MISSIONS are travel experiences unlike any other. Join us as we explore the past, present and future of the Jewish people in locations as diverse as Israel, Poland, Latin America and the former Soviet Union.

What makes each mission truly unique is its sense of purpose, guaranteeing our travelers a heightened appreciation and connection to their Jewish identity.

Our missions aren't passive experiences. They're active adventures, engaging the mind, heart, soul, and body. We'll explore local communities and their histories while traveling by jeep, boat, plane, and foot to make up-close and personal contact with the many marvels of Jewish existence. You'll witness firsthand the extraordinary efforts of organizations like the Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency for Israel while discovering and responding to the challenges facing Jewish communities today.

Missions Overview

An Israel Mission can mean so many things to so many people — a dream vacation for some, a spiritual awakening for others. A call to adventure that must be answered, or a shared experience that can become the foundation for the rest of your life — and for those you love. So pack your bags — you're going home!

What is a "Mission?"

It is an exciting spiritual, historical and personal adventure to the land of Israel — the land of soul and vitality. It is an opportunity to meet the People of Israel — to talk to new immigrants on a one-to-one basis, to ask questions and to share ideas with new Israeli friends.

Missions are for people of all ages and all interests — they are an opportunity for families to spend time with one another, for singles to meet, for business people to experience the Start-up Nation firsthand, for scuba divers to pursue their love of the sea — all within the context of 4,000 years of Jewish history.

The desire to achieve both unity and a respect for diversity has led to the expansion of the Mission's programs. Exciting missions are taken to Jewish communities throughout the world.

On a Mission you will visit innovative programs. You will meet with people in Israel and Overseas who benefit from the love and contributions of American Jews.

What Will You Experience On a Mission to Israel?

You see the most beautiful country in the world; a country steeped in your history. Jeep through the desert and know that you're following the route of our ancestors. Visit Tiberias and know you're in the city where our greatest sages lived.

Enjoy the culture and sophistication of Tel Aviv and remember that 40 years ago the city was little more than sand. Stand by the Western Wall and know that this is your moment to feel the hopes and dreams of generations of Jews.

Going to Israel with the Jewish Federations of North America or with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta is not just a tour — it's a Mission because you're taken behind the scenes. Whether military, cultural or political, we have access to all realms of society. The most experienced guides in the country and renowned scholars are your traveling companions. Writers, artists, politicians, the country's founders — eagerly meet our Mission participants.

What Missions Do We Offer?

The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta offers missions that meet local needs, while Jewish Federations of North American meets the evolving needs across American Jewish communities.

Throughout the year, a variety of family missions, with a complimentary Bar or Bat Mitzvah, as well as missions for families on a budget, active seniors, young adults, young couples, singles, grandparents, the mobility impaired and many, many others are offered.

Exciting "boutique," or special interest missions have also been developed. Whatever your special interest – from scuba diving or the arts, to tennis or business – Missions are designed for you.

What About the Accommodations?

They're wonderful — luxury hotels, scrumptious meals and the best in entertainment. After a day of mountain climbing, digging at an archaeological site, taking a walk through Jewish history, visiting ethnic quarters, or just sitting on the beach — return to your hotel to enjoy the best of services.

Pre- And Post-Missions

Besides Missions devoted to the exploration of Jewish communities throughout the world, pre-missions prior to the arrival in Israel or post-missions departing from Israel are also offered. Before or after your time in Israel, meet your people in Italy, the Former Soviet Union, Morocco, Cuba, France — discover other members of the Jewish family from the four corners of the earth.
